Sound Maps

Paint your soundscape: draw where each ambience lives on the map and let the tool blend them as the player moves, full 3D directionality included.

What's underneath Sound Maps: What: A Unity editor tool for painting sound areas onto a level. For: Developers who want ambient audio placed like paint, not scripted by hand. Where: Unity Asset Store, with a playable WebGL demo.

Sound Maps is our first publicly released asset for the Unity Asset Store, for developers.

We built it out of a need we kept running into in our own games: setting up complex soundscapes, rapidly and precisely, that would otherwise be impossible or take a lot of work, code and setup.

The problem

Ever had to set up the soundscape along a sea shore your player can walk along? A river? Where do the Audio Sources go? How many? Should the sound be 2D or 3D?

The Sound Maps way

You simply paint the audio volumes over your scene, and the system takes care of everything else, full 3D directionality included.

Try the demo scene in your browser, or get it on the Unity Asset Store. The trailer and the basic tutorial are below.
